In this episode Jack and Alex go over the history of the Eisenstadt family, the patriarch Ben his son Marvin, and how Sweet and Low was developed out of the packaging company Cumberland. We also discuss the changes in sugar substitutes that have been used over the years and how the government has shaped what is used through policy. Finally, we go over the disinheritance of the Cohen family from the Eisenstadts.

A summary and discussion of the book The Fish that Ate the Whale by Rich Cohen. In this episode Jack and Alex discuss the life of Samuel Zemurray. The Jewish Russian Immigrant who started Cuyamel fruit company and eventually went on to run United Fruit which eventually became Chiquita. Zemurray was involved in the Coup of the Honduran government in 1910 and Guatemala in the 1950’s and helped fund the birth of Israel.
